Fire poi is a dance for the most daring of performers, often found in the South Pacific. Here Patrick from our resort surrounds himself in a ring of fire and swings around a flaming baton for dramatic effect. The motion, music, and bright orange fire against the night sky make for a captivating performance.

Snapshot Sunday: Hiking Among Tongariro’s Volcanoes

Hiking the 17km (10 mile) track to Tama Lakes is a good way to see Tongariro, New Zealand’s oldest National Park. In addition to ski fields and the North’s only glaciers, it’s also home to three active volcanoes – Mount Ruapehu (pictured), Mount Ngauruhoe, and Mount Tongariro.

The park served as the set of Mordor in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and nearby Ngauruhoe was shot as Mount Doom.

Wild Wednesday: Hang Gliding in Queenstown

Located on New Zealand’s South Island, Queenstown is best known for its rugged mountains and wide array of adventure sports. This week we went hang gliding off of Coronet Peak, a spot with stunning views and one heck of a drop. We were in good hands though – our pilot was New Zealand’s National Hang Gliding Champion.
