Bangkok’s Wat Arun, also called The Temple of Dawn, is a Buddhist temple and one of the city’s best-known landmarks. The temple’s towers are supported by rows of demons and monkeys that act as its guardians. Another distinctive feature is the fine china that studs the outer walls. These shards of porcelain were first used as ballast on ships that came to Bangkok from China in the nineteenth century, and found a new home on the temple’s facade.
